There's enough to go around

Most of us have thrown out food we meant to eat: the last few servings of a casserole, half a tray of brownies, a loaf of bread that went stale before anyone got to it.

At the same time, some of the people on our own streets are too busy to cook tonight, skipping meals, or stretching a grocery budget to the end of the month.

Kettl puts those two kitchens in touch. The soup you couldn't finish becomes dinner for someone a few doors down.

Nobody has to explain why they're picking something up. Neighbors use Kettl because money is tight this week, because they're short on time, or just because they want to try what the family next door made.

How it works

  1. Post what you've made

    Add the dish, how many servings you have, and when it can be picked up. Listings disappear on their own once the pickup window ends.

  2. A neighbor claims it

    People nearby see your dish in their feed, with everything they need to know about how it was made.

  3. Hand it over

    Meet at your door, leave it outside, or pick a public spot. Share a recipe too, if you'd like.

You'll know what you're eating

Before anyone takes a dish home, they can see exactly how it was made and kept. Every listing has to include these details before it can go live.

Every sharer confirms: I confirm this food was prepared with care, stored safely, and is good to eat.

  • How it was storedRoom temperature, refrigerator, or freezer.
  • AllergensNuts, dairy, gluten, eggs, shellfish, and soy, plus a list of ingredients.
  • Pets in the kitchenA clear yes or no.
